Albras renews sponsorship of the Ponto de Apoio project

26 de November de 2024

Albras, the largest primary aluminum producer in Brazil, renewed its sponsorship of Ponto de Apoio (“Support Hub”), a project that promotes inclusion and accessibility through free tours on bicycles adapted for people with reduced mobility. The partnership was celebrated in an event on Sunday (17) at the Cabana Clube in Barcarena. The event also had the support of the company’s Volunteering Committee.

Albras’ sponsorship represents a milestone for Ponto de Apoio, ensuring the continuity of the project and enabling new initiatives, such as the creation of a Code of Ethics and Conduct and the development of other sustainable practices by the social project. In addition, it also brings organizational development support, with the Albras Volunteer Committee actively joining the actions.

“Ponto de Apoio is an important initiative for Albras. With it, we can connect our company’s values with everything we expect in an inclusion and collaboration project. Today, we have more than 500 volunteers registered in our talent bank who willingly contribute a little bit of their time to make a difference in people’s lives,” says Luiz Roberto Silva Junior, CEO of Albras.

During the event in Barcarena – where Albras has been headquartered since 1985 – dozens of participants, including persons with disabilities and the elderly, were able to enjoy the tours on adapted bicycles. Rubens Souza, Senior Human Resources Manager at Albras, highlights the importance of social inclusion and access to outdoor experiences for all. “This is an opportunity for people with reduced mobility to get to know the city they live in from a different perspective. To feel the wind on their face while riding a bike and have a fun day with their family. This goes hand-in-hand with the work of our volunteers, a team that lives our values in their very attitudes. Care, Courage and Collaboration are part of the essence of Albras’ volunteering”, he commented. “This is an opportunity for people with reduced mobility to see the city they live in from a new perspective. Feeling the wind on their faces, riding a bicycle, and having a fun day with their families aligns perfectly with our volunteer program—a team that embodies our values in their actions. Care, courage, and collaboration are at the heart of Albras’ volunteerism,” he said.

Founded in 2018 with a test event in Belém, the Ponto de Apoio project was born from a simple gesture between siblings and has grown to become a social inclusion initiative. Relying on support from Albras since December 2023, the project has expanded its activities and structure, including environmental education and sustainability actions. In the first half of 2024 alone, there were 13 editions of the tours, impacting 604 people with the support of 213 volunteers.

“With this sponsorship from Albras, we were able to acquire many materials that we used to borrow, such as bicycles, tents, tables and chairs. We also got a lot of new volunteers through the Volunteer Committee. This partnership comes in all shapes: financial, logistical, operational and from people who understood our concept, how the project works and then came together, in the literal sense of the word”, said Filipe Lisboa, coordinator and volunteer of the Ponto de Apoio project.

For Lucas Turbé, a volunteer at Albras, participating in this initiative is a gesture of great significance. “I got to know the project through one of the members of the Albras Volunteer Committee and felt inspired to contribute a little of my time to help people with some limitations to get the chance to experience some nature. This is priceless. One of the most remarkable experiences was when a lady said to me, ‘Thank you so much. I can’t walk, so I would never have the opportunity to go for a walk like this in the middle of nature. I’m happy and fulfilled’. The project helps me recharge my battery and value the little things in life.”
